My furniture is made to 1/12th scale and the idea
is to remain as close to the original as possible
The wood used is Sheesham which is a hardwood. It
is akin to mahagony because of the colour and close
grain.
The finish is French
polish (shellac) which is applied by several coats
thinned with spirits and then rubbed down with steel
wool between coats and finally buffed. I can finish
any particular piece to your liking.
The turning is done
on an Emco Unimat 4 and a watch makers lathe. The
furniture is hand carved and the chisels used are
French miniatures. The hardware and hinges are our
own fabrication. The knobs are turned using a graver
on the lathe. Other hardware is casted.
The rocking chair from
my collection is a scaled down version of the original
“swing” rocking chair introduced to the
furniture trade by the firm H&A.G. Alexander &
Co Ltd of Eastfield Rutherglen near Glasgow.
I take commissions and
can make specific items according to good photographs
and measurements. If preferred I can make furniture
to 1/12th scale.
